yesterday i cut 13 inches of hair off and now i have a pretty short hair style. i'm not sure about my orientation, but i might be lesbian. do you think people will think i'm gay because of my hair? i know i could be totally wrong. i know not all lesbians have short hair. but.. i'm just curious, i guess, as to what you all think about this.

Most people go through a time of deciding whether their attraction to the same gender is just a deep admiration or a crush. (answer that question and you have basically decided)

Yes, You will undoubtedly have several people take one look and decide that you are a lesbian, but the majority will probably wonder but not say anything, and some will never have the word lesbian even cross their mind.

To those who say most won't question orientation:

Lets face it, short hair is a widely excepted lesbian stereotype... not true but none the less probably as excepted as any other stereotype.

My life example: I got my hair cut really short (it was sooo *cute*). I got several complements... most from girls??? : } ( : seriously girls are the most likely to complement anyways so don't put much in to that : ) But the first guy that commented said "do you play the guy or the girl?" ... "You're the guy, right?"

Most of the lesbians I know have short hair. I also know tons of straight women with short hair, so I guess that doesn't help you.

Okay, isn't it getting tiresome to hear of people categorizing people in groups due to a hair style, clothing style, etc. and even those who are "gay or lesbian" speak of themselves as part of a group. It is singling out certain people rather than including them into a whole, as we are all people and deserve to be treated as such. I am not gay, but if I was, I would be so tired of all the classifications for something that is not any different than being fat, skinny, black, disabled......do you get the point........

I used to live near Fire Island, and have known many gay people. Many Lesbians do in fact have short hair. So do many straight women. Hair style does not indicate sexual orientation. Do you want to have sex with women? Then you are a lesbian. If not, then you just have a short hairdo. When I meet women with short hairdos, I do not automatically think they're gay, but some people do. I remember my Mom got a haircut that was almost a buzzcut, and my Dad kept going on and on about how she looked like a lesbian. Well, he didn't say lesbian, but you get the idea.

I seriously doubt people will think you're gay JUST because you have short hair. If they do then they are pretty narrow-minded and need to get out more.... millions of straight girls also have short hair.

Now having said that there are people out there that think it does mean something. It does mean that you are powerful enough to do something different. It is sterotypical for women to have long hair and men to have short hair.

I know a girl who is bisexual and she cut her hair short into a punk girl look after having it long for years. People did wonder if she was a lesbian after that and others still thought she was straight, nobody really guesses bisexual. But she cut her hair because she liked the style. And it looks cute on her too.

There are many movie stars that cut their hair short into punk or pixie cuts for the style, like Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, and Angelina Jolie (bi), and they are straight... or bi.
